My
choosing Ophthalmology was similar to finding my religion. During my
residency training program I came to fully appreciate that my passion for
eye care stands only behind my dedication to my family and my spiritual
faith. Treating eye patients is a very satisfying and integral part of my
life to which I devote much effort, care and compassion, and bring my solid
training, and long experience and constant continuing education to bear for
the benefit of my patients. For the most effective, successful and efficient
medical care, patients need to be informed of all aspects of their medical
condition; by utilizing this physician-team approach, the best care to the
patient can be assured. The purpose of my education and training, even beginning before the days of medical school, is to bring the best possible care to my patients whether their problem is life threatening or comparatively minor. However, when it comes to one’s eyes, vision and health, there are no insignificant problems. The key to providing the best patient care has its foundation in listening and honestly addressing the patient’s questions and concerns with compassion and empathy. Patients should be included in their treatment plans to build a long term healthy physician-patient relationship that benefits everyone.
My education and experience has given me insight into the practice of medicine, especially Ophthalmology. What I have discovered however, is that the process of learning never stops. I have continued to seek additional skills through continuing education wherever possible. One of the greatest sources of learning is the patient. We as physicians can learn a great deal by listening to our patients and how they approach each challenge in their lives. My goal is to conduct my clinical practice with the same high professionalism, integrity and character in which I was trained and which every patient has the right to expect.
